Frequently Asked Questions 1. Why drink from copper rather than steel or glass? Copper is a living metal – it interacts with stored water, helping curb harmful bacteria and balancing pH, while steel or glass simply store water. 2. Why does this glass come with a lid? The lid keeps water covered while it rests overnight, preventing dust, insects, and airborne contaminants from entering. 3. How long should water be stored before drinking? A minimum of 3 hours; overnight (8 hours) is ideal, as recommended in Ayurveda – best had first thing in the morning. 4. Is it safe to drink from copper daily? Yes, when used correctly. Water stored up to 8 hours leaches only trace copper, within WHO-recommended limits. Avoid storing water beyond 24 hours. 5. Can I store hot tea, coffee, or other liquids? No. This tumbler is for water only – hot or acidic liquids (lemon water, buttermilk, juices, alcohol) accelerate copper leaching and react with the metal. 6. Why is the outside turning dark or black? This is natural oxidation (patina) and is harmless – a sign of pure, uncoated copper. Rub with lemon or tamarind to restore its lustre. 7. There’s greenish residue inside – is it dangerous? That’s copper carbonate, which can form if not cleaned regularly. Wash thoroughly with lemon and salt before reuse, and clean after every use. 8. What is the tambat freehand beating technique? A centuries-old coppersmithing craft of Maharashtra’s Tambat community, shaped entirely by hand without moulds or machinery, giving each piece a distinctive character. 9. How is this different from mass-produced copper glasses? Most commercial copper products are machine-pressed, often from mixed alloys. This tumbler is handbeaten from virgin copper and lab-tested for purity. 10. How do I clean it without damaging it? Use mild soap or water with a soft cloth, and lemon or tamarind for shine. Avoid steel wool, abrasive cleaners, and dishwashers.
